You might have not heard about the Passover before you know the World Mission Society Church of God (WMSCOG.) Surprisingly, there are not so many people who know about the Passover although the word “Passover” appears more than seventy times in the Scriptures. Even those who have heard about the Passover may think that the Passover is a feast of the Old Covenant or the Law of Moses and they do not need to keep it. We must understand first that there are the Law of Moses and the Law of Christ, and as you know the Law of Moses should not be observed anymore. However, we should keep the Law of Christ.
To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law [the Law of Moses]), so as to win those under the law. To those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God’s law but am under Christ’s law), so as to win those not having the law. (1 Corinthians 9:20-21)
The Apostle Paul said that he was not under the law in 1 Corinthians 9:20, but he also said that he was under Christ. From this, we can understand that Paul was not under Moses’ law [the Old Covenant], but under Christ’s law [the New Covenant]. Therefore, those who insist that they do not need to observe any law misunderstood the Bible. We should keep Christ’s law or the New Covenant. The following verse will help you understand the change of the law: from the law of Moses to the law of Christ (Please refer to this page for more on this topic):
For when there is a change of the priesthood, there must also be a change of the law. (Hebrews 7:12)
So, there are the Passover of the Old Covenant and the Passover of the New Covenant, and we should keep the Passover of the New Covenant. Most especially, Jesus established the Passover and promised the forgiveness of sins.
So the disciples did as Jesus had directed them and prepared the Passover… While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this [Passover bread] is my body.” Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. This [Passover wine] is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. (Matthew 26:17-28)
Sometimes, I have met people who proudly said, “I got salvation” or “I was forgiven.” But, Jesus said, “The Passover wine is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many sinners for the forgiveness of sins.” Without keeping the Passover, we neither have the forgiveness of sins nor get salvation. Jesus also declared that the Passover is the New Covenant made in His blood.
And he [Jesus] said to them, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer…. In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup [Passover wine] is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you. (Luke 22:15-20)
Why did Jesus want to eagerly desire to keep the Passover? It’s because the forgiveness of sins is only possible through the Passover. Moreover, the Passover means that disasters would pass over us.
… Eat it in haste; it is the LORD’S Passover. ”On that same night I will pass through Egypt and strike down every firstborn–both men and animals–and I will bring judgment on all the gods of Egypt. I am the LORD. The blood [the blood of the Passover lamb] will be a sign for you on the houses where you are; and when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No destructive plague will touch you when I strike Egypt. (Exodus 12:11-13)
The Old Testament is a shadow and the New Testament is reality. Jesus has been sacrificed as the Passover lamb. Therefore, now we do not need to keep the Passover by killing the Passover lamb because Jesus was sacrificed as the lamb. Instead, we should eat and drink the Passover bread and wine which represents the flesh and blood of Jesus. If you keep the Passover of the New Covenant, you will be protected from all kinds of disasters as well as you have the forgiveness of sins. Today, only the World Mission Society Church of God (WMSCOG) celebrates the New Covenant according to teachings of the Bible because Christ Ahnsahnghong restored the New Covenant which had not been observed for more than 1,600 years. Christ Ahnsahnghong re-opened the way to the Tree of Life by bringing us the Passover. Please refer to this web-page for more about the Passover and Christ Ahnsahnghong.
