The World Mission Society Church of God (Witness of Ahnsahnghong) keeps the Sabbath day. Some people will think about the Sabbath of the Old Testament when they are told the “Sabbath day.” However, they misunderstand the teachings of the Church of God and the Bible. The WMSCOG keeps the Sabbath of the New Testament or New Covenant. There are two kinds of Laws in the Bible: the Law of Moses and the Law of Christ. So, the Apostle Paul said, “I am not under the law (the Law of Moses),” and he also said, “I am not free from God’s law but am under Christ’ law” (1 Corinthians 10:20-21.) Therefore, Jesus said “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophet; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them” (Matthew 5:17.) He changed the Sabbath of the Old Covenant to the Sabbath of the New Covenant to fulfill it. Jesus showed an example of how to celebrate the Sabbath: He kept the Sabbath in spirit and in truth as was his custom (Luke 4:16.) By following the example of Jesus, the disciples and apostles also kept the Sabbath (Acts 17:2-3; Acts 18:4.)
The Sabbath is Saturday, not Sunday
As you see from the above video, the Sabbath is Saturday, not Sunday and even the Roman Catholic Church acknowledges that Sunday is not based on the Bible:
But you may read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, and you will not find a single line authorizing the sanctification of Sunday. The Scriptures enforce the religious observance of Saturday [the Sabbath day]… (From “The Faith of Our Fathers” (James Cardinal Gibbons, Ten Books and Publishers, 1980))
But since Saturday [the Sabbath], not Sunday, is specified in the Bible, isn’t it curious that non-Catholics who profess to take their religion directly from the Bible and not from the Church [the Roman Catholic Church], observe Sunday instead of Saturday? Yes, of course, it is inconsistent; but this change was made about fifteen centuries before Protestantism was born, and by that time the custom was universally observed. (From “The Faith of Millions“ (James A. O’Brien, Our Sunday Visitor, Inc., 1974))
It’s written in the book titled “The History of Christianity (Tim Dowley, Lion Publishing, 1994)” as follows:
When in 321 Constantine made the first day of the week holiday, he called it ‘the venerable day of the Sun‘ (Sunday).
Sunday is “the day of the Sun”, and those who give services on Sunday worship God in vain. Instead, we should worship on the Sabbath day.
Why is the Sabbath day so important?
Then, why does the Church of God keep the Sabbath as a very important feast? Some might say “It’s not important on which day we worship God. Important is our mind to worship God. Moreover, isn’t it there only one day difference between the Sabbath and Sunday?” As God’s people, we are not allowed to ignore the Word of God.
I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book [the Bible]. And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy [the Bible], God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book. (Revelation 22:18-19)
Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it… (Deuteronomy 4:2)
It’s written that those who take words away from the Bible cannot enter the kingdom of heaven. And those who add anything to them will be subject to the plagues. How dreadful it is! Really we should not add to what God commanded and should not subtract from it to get salvation. So, if there is only one day or even one hour difference, we must follow the Words of God without adding to or taking away from them. Moreover, God made the Sabbath day a sign between God and God’s people:
Say to the Israelites, ‘You must observe my Sabbaths. This [the Sabbath] will be a sign between me and you for the generations to come, so you may know that I am the LORD, who makes you holy. (Exodus 31:13)
Therefore, those who do not observe the Sabbath cannot be entitled to be called God’s people. The choice is up to you: Which day will you observe? Sunday or the Sabbath day?
Faithful Christians try to live by the Ten Commandments. They regard the first commandment (“You shall have no other gods before me”) as important. But, why do they think the fourth commandment (“Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy”) was abolished and say there is no need to keep the Sabbath day? They regard it as a law of Moses. However, there are two kinds of Laws in the Bible: the Law of Moses [the Old Covenant] and the Law of Christ [the New Covenant], and we should keep the New Covenant. As I said above, the World Mission Society Church of God (WMSCOG) observes the feasts of the New Covenant including the Sabbath day and the Passover by following the teachings of Jesus. Please remember the Sabbath day [Saturday in our current calendar system] by keeping it holy as God commanded.
If only you had paid attention to my commands, your peace would have been like a river, your righteousness like the waves of the sea. (Isaiah 48:18)
