In my previous post, I discussed the danger of deciding based on the thoughts or opinions of men. Then, how does the Bible define “heresy”?
But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them–bringing swift destruction on themselves. Many will follow their shameful ways and will bring the way of truth into disrepute. In their greed these teachers [false prophets] will exploit you with stories they have made up. (2 Peter 2:1-3)
The Bible defines heresies as “stores made up by men.” Jesus said, “If you love me, you will obey what I command” (John 14:15.) However, unfortunately many people do not follow the teachings of Jesus. For example, Jesus established the Passover of the new covenant and said, “This [The Passover wine] is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins” (Matthew 26:28.) He even said, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover.” But, no churches keep the Passover except the World Mission Society Church of God (WMSCOG.) Instead, all Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus on December 25th, which originated from pagan festivals for celebrating the birth of sun-god. Christmas is a mere man-made teaching and has nothing to do with the Bible.
The World Mission Society Church of God obeys the feasts of the new covenant including the Passover by following the teachings of Jesus. Some might argue that such feasts are the Law of Moses and they do not need to keep them. But the Church of God observes the feasts of the new covenant, not those of the old covenant (Please refer to this page for “the Law of Moses and the Law of Christ.”)
God gave us the Bible and warned not to add to or take away from it (Revelation 22:18-19.) Those who add man-made teachings to the Bible or take away the words of God from the Bible cannot enter the kingdom of heaven. Christmas, Sunday, Easter, Thanksgiving Day and the cross are no more than man-made rules, which cannot save us. The Apostle John described the characteristics of the Saints who will be saved in this age:
This calls for patient endurance on the part of the saints who obey God’s commandments and remain faithful to Jesus. (Revelation 14:12)
